Kids Wish Network Joins With Some Special Guardian Angels to Bring Joy to Sick Children in Orlando

Posted in Press Releases on December 31st, 2007

Orlando, FL – Young patients are enjoying an unexpected treat during their visits to the Howard Phillips Center for Children and Families and Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. Over $100,000 in retail value worth of toys were recently shipped to the hospital’s pediatric units to be distributed to the youngsters courtesy of Kids Wish Network, a Holiday, Florida based national charity dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children. Each and every child entering the hospital for treatment will receive a brand new toy from the Holiday of Hope Gift Bank. This extraordinary event would not be possible without the generosity of presenting ‘Guardian Angel’ sponsors, AirTran Airways, The Royal Plaza Hotel and Megatrux, Inc. Av Med Health is the ‘Guardian Angel’ sponsor of the hospital playroom.
AirTran Airways has been a longtime supporter of Kids Wish Network. “AirTran Airways is honored to be participating in this event; it is wonderful to be able to give back to the community this way. It is a pleasure to be associated with an organization like Kids Wish Network and we are proud to be a sponsor,” said Travi Bissoon, Marketing Coordinator for AirTran Airways.
The Royal Plaza Hotel in Downtown Disney has also been committed to Kids Wish Network’s mission and was happy to be a sponsor for the Gift Bank. The Royal Plaza has sponsored countless wish families during their visits to Florida. “We are honored to be a partner with the Kids Wish Network and provide accommodations for these families as they enjoy their time in Central Florida,” said Scott Fries, Director of Revenue Management of the Royal Plaza. “The time these children spend with us is short but the smiles we see each day are priceless and leave a lasting impression.”
Megatrux Inc. is one of the largest privately owned transportation, shipping, & warehousing networks on the entire globe and has played a truly significant role in behind-the-scenes assistance to Kids Wish Network and its many programs.
The hospital playroom sponsor, Av Med, was also happy to be involved in helping to bring joy to so many children. “AvMed is pleased to be part of this unique event,” said Jim Scheib, Director Sales for the Orlando and Tampa markets at AvMed Health Plans. “Like AvMed, the Kids Wish Network is a great organization built on integrity and trust. AvMed is confident that together we will meet our mutual goals within the community.”

“Through the help of the Kids Wish Network, we are able to provide gifts for kids who are dealing with child abuse, HIV/AIDS, developmental disabilities and no medical insurance on top of an already tight budget. Finding holiday items for these 17,000 children and families can be daunting, but we try to make it a priority at the Howard Phillips Center for Children & Families. The Kids Wish Network will be granting wishes for all our clients this holiday season and we are truly grateful,” said Carmel Munroe, Ph.D., Director of the Howard Phillips Center for Children & Families.
Kids Wish Network’s Holiday of Hope Gift Bank is an uplifting, gift-giving program that brings cheer to children admitted to the hospital for treatment. The Gift Bank provides emergency rooms, pediatric wards, and other children’s care facilities with age appropriate toys that offer a welcome distraction to young patients from upsetting and often-traumatic medical experiences. Emergency and hospital rooms can be frightening places for children and these special toys bring them comfort and joy when they need it the most.
A soft, plush toy can quickly dry the eyes of a child getting stitches or having a broken arm set; books, puzzles, and games provide an enjoyable diversion to long hospital stays. Pediatric doctors and nurses all agree that sometimes a smile can be the very best medicine.
