Kids Wish Network Brings Some Early Christmas Fun to Kids in Alaska

Posted in Press Releases on October 31st, 2008

Anchorage, AK – The smiles could not be wider at the Alaska Native Medical Center, thanks to Kids Wish Network and CIRI!

Kids Wish Network’s Holiday of Hope Gift Bank is a unique gift-giving program created to bring comfort to kids in children’s care facilities across the country, by distributing brand new toys and games donated by some of America’s top toy manufacturers. It has been proven that these Gift Banks help alleviate fears and anxieties by allowing children to temporarily forget about the pain and fear often accompanying these scary circumstances.

This year, the Alaska Native Medical Center participated in their third Gift Bank, sponsored by a generous donation from CIRI, which is an Alaska Native-owned company with diversified business interests that include energy and resource development, Alaska tourism and out-of-Alaska destination resorts, telecommunications, real estate development, oilfield and construction services, government contracting and private-equity investments.

For their Gift Bank, Alaska Native Medical Center received approximately $60,000 in donated toys and games from Kids Wish Network. To distribute some of the toys to the children, the hospital planned a special little party. According to an employee who helped to give out the toys, “It’s like early Christmas!” They all get excited every time they “open the boxes to see what the kids are going to get!”

As this was their third gift bank, the people at Alaska Native knew exactly how fantastic the Holiday of Hope Gift Bank Program is. Child life specialist, Roberta said that, "In partnership with Kids Wish Network, the toy Gift Bank program allows kids from small remote villages across our state to receive toys that they love and might not be able to have otherwise."

All because of the Kids Wish Network Holiday of Hope Gift Bank, many kids in Alaska are smiling tonight!

The Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) is a tribally owned and operated healthcare facility that provides a full range of services to eligible Alaska Natives and American Indians who live in Alaska. Together the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium and South-central Foundation jointly own and manage ANMC.  These parent organizations have established a Joint Operating Board to ensure unified operation of health services provided by the Medical Center.

Kids Wish Network Brings Some ‘Spooky’ Early Halloween Fun to Kids in Fort Myers

Posted in Press Releases on October 30th, 2008

Fort Myers, FL – The smiles could not be wider at the Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, thanks to Kids Wish Network and the Arnold and Joy Gottlieb Family Foundation!

This year, the Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida in Ft. Myers participated in their third Gift Bank, sponsored by a generous donation from the Arnold & Joy Gottlieb Family Foundation. For their Gift Bank, they received approximately $60,000 in donated toys and games from Kids Wish Network. To distribute some of the toys to the children, the hospital planned a special Halloween party complete with mini-pumpkin decorating and plenty of Halloween-themed cookies and refreshments.

According to Child Life Specialist, Kelley, “It was a spooktacular time here at The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida! The kids were able to be kids and enjoy a bit of their time outside their room and participate in the festivities of the season.  The kids really enjoyed making their very own frosting designs on their cookies piled high with sprinkles and the other big hit had to be the ‘making your own pumpkin face’ on their mini pumpkins.  The parents and kids alike had an amazing time!”

During this party, the children had the chance to receive their toys and did so with much joy, said sponsor, Andrew Gottlieb: “Seeing all the smiles reinforces my pleasure in sponsoring events like this on behalf of the Arnold & Joy Gottlieb Family Foundation. I continue to look forward to sponsoring and attending future events in coordination with Kids Wish Network.”

If you know of a facility that could benefit from Kids Wish Network’s Holiday of Hope Gift Bank Program, please call (727) 937-3600 or toll free at (888) 918-9004. For more information on Kids Wish Network’s programs, please visit their website at www.kidswishnetwork.org.
