A “Guardian Angel” Comes to the Rescue of Kids in Crisis: Unishippers Delivers a Truckload of Joy to Kids Wish Network

Posted in Press Releases on November 12th, 2010

HOLIDAY, Fla. – Just like a “Guardian Angel” in a story, Unishippers just came to the rescue of Kids Wish Network and delivered a shipment when they needed them the most.

It all started with a phone call. Barbara Askin, the Director of Distribution for national children’s charity Kids Wish Network, had a donation of 11 pallets worth of fantastic lap desks that would be absolutely perfect for the hospitalized children served by Kids Wish Network’s programs. The only catch was that the desks were in South Carolina and Barbara needed a “Guardian Angel” to help pick them up and bring them to Florida.

As an answer to Barbara’s call for help, Unishippers stepped up to the plate as real life “Guardian Angels” and picked up and delivered the 11 pallets very quickly.

According to Darren Hart, the Relationships Manager for Unishippers, “They [Kids Wish Network] had 11 pallets that they needed to move from South Carolina to Florida, so we made a few phone calls…David [Cohen] is the local owner of the franchise of Unishippers so we called his people and they got Benton in one phone call to pick this load up.”

The quick acceptance and delivery of the merchandise by Unishippers delighted and surprised everyone at Kids Wish Network and the truck from Benton was greeted with much cheer and excitement by the Kids Wish team; in fact, the Unishippers group were given a true hero’s welcome!

For Barbara Askin, the help that Unishippers offered to Kids Wish Network was amazing indeed: “Considering today’s times with all of the difficulties that businesses are facing, it is wonderful that we have an excellent relationship with perfect service with Unishippers…it’s something that is very rare and I want to thank David and Unishippers for everything they’re doing for the kids.”

Were it not for caring organizations like Unishippers, Kids Wish Network’s mission would not be possible nor would they be able to make a difference in the lives of so many young people. For this, they offer their sincere thanks to this wonderful “Guardian Angel” and others like them who help them to spread cheer year-round to very deserving children.

Kids Wish Network, White Memorial Medical Center and Big Baby, Inc. host a Successful Holiday of Hope Celebration for Pediatric Patients in California

Posted in Press Releases on November 5th, 2010

KIDS WISH NETWORK – With help from various sponsors, celebrities and volunteers from California, Kids Wish Network and Big Baby, Inc.’s 2010 Holiday of Hope celebration at White Memorial Medical Center was a phenomenal success.

Through the sponsorship of Big Baby, Inc. and Megatrux Inc., national children’s charity Kids Wish Network donated over $100,000 worth of brand new toys, games and gifts to White Memorial Medical Center for distribution among their pediatric patients. In order to distribute the toys and to celebrate the donation, Kids Wish Network and White Memorial hosted a Holiday of Hope party complete with activities, food, entertainment and celebrities for patients and their families to enjoy a fun day away from the stress and pain of medical treatments.

“Seeing the impact this event had on so many underprivileged children from our community was really uplifting,” said Victor Madero, manager of community relations for White Memorial Medical Center.  “The response was more than we could have hoped for and the generous donations of toys and entertainment from Kids Wish Network left an extraordinarily positive community impression on hundreds of children and their families which is vital to enhancing their quality of life.”

There were over 200 pediatric patients and their families in attendance and, as entertainment, there was a DJ and a dance floor, face painters, airbrush tattoo artists and activity centers which delighted children of all ages. In addition, there was a stylish red carpet set up for the kids to parade down after receiving mini-makeovers; there were even photographers present to take pictures of those who walked the carpet and give them the pictures as a memento to cherish.

Of course, no red carpet event would be complete without celebrities, and there were several who showed up to spend time with the kids including Nathan Kress of Nickelodeon’s “iCarly”; Robbie Amell and Ashley Argota of “True Jackson, VP”; and Joshua Logan Moore of “Desperate Housewives.” Also present were LA Galaxy defender Sean Franklin, along with the Galaxy Street Team and members of the Miss LA Galaxy court.

“Over 200 kids attended and they all had a great time meeting the celebrities from Nickelodeon’s ‘iCarly’ and ‘True Jackson, VP,’ playing soccer with the LA Galaxy or making bead jewelry. The music, the roaming characters, face painting, and temporary tattoos made the event magical,” said Madeline Robinson, Chief Operations Officer for Kids Wish Network.

While they were enjoying all the festivities, the pediatric patients and their often-forgotten siblings were excited to be given age and gender appropriate gift bags completely filled with toys, games, books and other amazing gifts to take home.

“We are grateful to our generous sponsors and vendors and appreciate the assistance provided by White Memorial Hospital’s staff and volunteers to make it a memorable event for the local children and families,” said Alicia Argiz-Lyons, Executive Director of Kids Wish Network, while Roni Braitanbaum of Big Baby, Inc. says that their company is more than happy with the way the event went and that they are ready for another one: “We at Big Baby, Inc. are extremely happy, proud, and overjoyed to have been part of this great event and look forward to continue with that commitment in the future.”

A Great American Tradition: Kids Wish Network Teams Up with Santa Train Bringing Much-Needed Joy to Appalachia

Posted in Press Releases on November 1st, 2010

Holiday, FL – While fulfilling their mission to spread joy and create happy memories for children experiencing life-altering situations across the United States, national children’s charity Kids Wish Network is working diligently to bring over $300,000 worth of toys and gifts to the Santa Train to be distributed among the thousands of impoverished children of the Appalachian Mountains, making this the best Santa Train ever.  Kids Wish Network joined long time sponsors CSX, Food City and the Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce on the Santa Train team this year.

Every year for the past 67 years, CSX has conducted an unbelievably generous charitable event for the people of the Appalachian Mountains called the Santa Train. This is an event in which an actual CSX train loaded with toys, gifts and volunteers travels through the Appalachian Mountains from Shelby, Kentucky to Kingsport, Tennessee to deliver presents directly into the hands of the needy children who live in these isolated areas. The Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce and Food City also are well-established sponsors for the train.

This Santa Train is highly anticipated in Appalachia and it has also become a beloved and great American tradition that is being passed down from generation to generation; for many of the families who come to meet the Santa Train, it is their only Christmas.

With over $300,000 worth of toys and gifts being lovingly packed into age-appropriate gift bags at Kids Wish Network’s headquarters in Florida, the deserving children in the Appalachian mountains have even more to be excited about this year, considering that every one of these toys and gifts come from some of the nation’s leading toy manufacturers and distributors.

Another exciting aspect of this year’s Santa Train sure to brighten everyone’s spirits is the attendance of famous Appalachian singers Naomi and Wynonna Judd.  The amazing mother and daughter duo will be helping to distribute the toys and gifts to the children awaiting the wonderful Santa Train.

“Sharing the joy of the holiday season with children who are growing up in a place so close to my heart is something that I am so honored and humbled to have the opportunity to do,” said Wynonna. “Participating in the Santa Train with my mother makes it even more special to me.”

And now, thanks to CSX, Kids Wish Network, and everyone else involved with the amazing Santa Train, over 5,000 deserving children will have a little bit more with which to celebrate the holiday season this year.
